What GNM actually teaches you.
General Nursing & Midwifery is a diploma focused on bedside competence. You build a foundation in anatomy, physiology and nursing fundamentals, then move through medical-surgical nursing, midwifery and community health — with supervised clinical postings running alongside classroom work from the first year.
The programme runs for 36 months in total — 30 months of teaching followed by a six-month internship — and on successful completion you register as a nurse with the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC). It is the most direct route into hospital nursing in this state, and it is the qualification most staff nurse vacancies in West Bengal ask for.
Who can apply for GNM nursing?
The rules are simpler than most applicants believe. Read them carefully before you rule yourself out.
Academic qualification
10+2 passed from a recognised board in any stream, with an aggregate of at least 40% and a pass in English as a subject.
Age limit
You must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission. Upper age limits follow the current WBJEEB notification.
Medical fitness
Candidates must be medically fit for nursing duties. A fitness certificate is submitted at the time of admission.
How seats are filled
Seats at Annapurna Nursing Institute are filled through WBJEEB centralised counselling. Name us in your choice list to be considered.
Eligibility norms are set by the West Bengal Nursing Council and the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board, and can change between cycles. Always confirm against the current year’s official notification — or call us and we will check your marks with you.

Admission to GNM in West Bengal runs entirely through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). You sit one common entrance test, then choose your college in centralised counselling.
Class 10 standard
The questions are set at secondary — Class 10 — level, not Class 12. Many websites state this incorrectly. Prepare from your Madhyamik material.
1½ hours, all MCQ
A single objective paper of multiple-choice questions, taken in one sitting of ninety minutes.
Bengali & English
The paper is bilingual, except for the English and Logical Reasoning sections. Bengali-medium students are not at a disadvantage.
General academic
Life science, physical science, mathematics, English and logical reasoning — general secondary knowledge rather than specialist science.

Download your rank card when results are published. Your rank determines when you are called in counselling.
Register for counselling
Register on the WBJEEB counselling portal within the published window and pay the counselling fee.
Fill your choices
List colleges in genuine order of preference and fill as many as you are willing to attend. Put us high if you want a seat here — an unfilled choice can never be allotted.
Seat allotment & reporting
Accept your allotted seat, then report to the institute with original documents within the reporting deadline.
Beware of anyone offering a GNM seat outside this process. Admission in West Bengal is only through the WBJEEB entrance and centralised counselling — there is no direct admission, donation seat or management quota for GNM. We will never ask you for anything of that kind.

Classroom teaching, laboratory practicals and clinical postings run together throughout, following the prescribed nursing council curriculum.
After GNM
On completion you register with the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC) and can practise as a nurse. Our graduates work as staff nurses across medical, surgical, critical care, maternity and paediatric units, and in community and public health roles.
GNM also opens the route to further qualifications later — Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing and specialist training — if you decide to move into teaching, administration or a specialty.
