Can an Arts or Commerce student do GNM nursing in West Bengal?

Yes — and this is the single most misunderstood rule in nursing admissions. GNM eligibility asks for a 10+2 pass in any stream with 40% aggregate and a pass in English. Science is not required. Vocational candidates who passed the Health Care Science stream are also eligible under the same rules.

How long is the GNM course?

The programme runs for 36 months in total — 30 months of teaching followed by a six-month internship — and on successful completion you register as a nurse with the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC).

What is the age limit for GNM admission?

You must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission. Upper age limits follow the current WBJEEB notification.

What level is the WBJEEB ANM & GNM entrance test set at?

The questions are set at secondary — Class 10 — level, not Class 12. Many websites state this incorrectly; prepare from your Madhyamik material.It is a single objective paper of multiple-choice questions taken in one sitting of ninety minutes, bilingual in Bengali and English except for the English and Logical Reasoning sections.

How are seats at Annapurna Nursing Institute filled?

Is there direct admission or a management quota for GNM?

No. Admission in West Bengal is only through the WBJEEB entrance and centralised counselling — there is no direct admission, donation seat or management quota for GNM. We will never ask you for anything of that kind, and you should be wary of anyone who does.

What can you do after GNM?

On completion you register with the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC) and can practise as a nurse. Our graduates work as staff nurses across medical, surgical, critical care, maternity and paediatric units, and in community and public health roles.GNM also opens the route to further qualifications later — Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing and specialist training — if you decide to move into teaching, administration or a specialty.
